What to Feed a Sick Cat That Won’t Eat
When it comes to the communication between cats and their owners, things don’t go so smoothly and the situation gets even worse when there is a health issue with the pet.
Animals, same as humans, have preferences when it comes to food and this is particularly true for cats. There are certain foods that certain cats just don’t want to eat.
This is all well and fine until the cat has some health issues and the digestion system is not functioning properly. Through trial and error, people actually managed to find some solutions to these situations but they may not always work out. It’s is up to you to decide if you want to give them a chance.
So here are the three most commonly used tactics to get your cat to eat:
Tuna water and medication food
Let’s assume that your first reaction to your cat’s bad health was taking her to the vet. This is perfectly understandable and even advisable but what might happen is that you receive medication food for your pet and this is not the best tasting food out there, that is for sure.
If this happens it can be kind of tricky to make sure that your cat gets enough amount of medication, so one of your best bets is going to be the tuna water.
What you want to do is to extract just the water from the can of tuna and add it to the medication food to make it more appealing to the cat. Important thing is to avoid actual fish as it can be bad for the pet and seasoning is also out of question.
Back to basics with rice and chicken
If you think that it’s nothing too bad and you decided to rather not take your pet to the vet, there are also some options for you.
The first dish that you should try is just a plain old regular chicken and rice. One serving of this mix can give your cat enough nutrients without any problems and cats don’t usually have any problems with it.
Another advantage that this combination has is that it is easily digestible for the cats. Just make sure that the meat is fully separated from the bone before serving to avoid any further complications.
Another solution to this problem is a liquid-based diet for your pet. A lot of people decide to take this route when their health is compromised and the same option is available for the pets also.
There are multiple recipes out there that you can use to prepare chicken soup for your pet. One of them is to mix a few pounds of chicken boiled in water with some tomato juice.
You can also add digestive enzymes to give your cat some digesting boost. This approach will give you a fair amount of food that will keep you covered for the next few days so you don’t have to stress about that every day.
Before serving let the soup get cold and again, it’s crucial that there are no chicken bone leftovers in the dish.
Whatever you choose to do, give your pet prescribed medications or just go with some usual foods, there will be some problems before you figure out what your cat actually want to eat while she is in this condition, but once the initial obstacle is passed the recovery is going to be quick.
